Your health care provider or eye care specialist will recommend how often to get an exam. Also, you'll likely need more regular exams if you already have prescription glasses or contacts or if you've had surgery for vision correction. If you have diabetes, a family history of eye disease, high blood pressure, or other risks of heart or vascular disease, you'll likely need more-regular eye exams. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends that healthy adults with no known problems with vision or eye disease should get a complete eye exam on the following schedule: If a problem is identified in a screening test, then you'll need to schedule a complete eye exam with an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Annually through the end of high school. Before kindergarten, usually age 5 or 6.The recommended times for screening are as follows: Vision screenings are often offered at schools or community centers. A screening test may be performed by a pediatrician, ophthalmologist, optometrist or other trained provider. Vision screenings are tests to check for vision problems. If there are any problems, you may be referred to a medical doctor specializing in eye health and care (ophthalmologist). Your child's pediatrician or other health care provider will conduct relatively simple exams to check the health of your child's eyes at birth, between 6 and 12 months of age, and between 12 and 36 months of age. The larger cups are intended to hold enough raw ingredients that condense down to a single serving once blended. The Nutribullet comes with a range of cups that work fine for making 1-2 normal servings. For blenders, many promote themselves as self-cleaning which essentially means you fill the dirty cup with hot water and dish soap and run on high speed until clean. Blenders And Nutribullet’s Lids And Cupsįor cleaning Nutribullet cups you just fill with warm water and dish soap and shake it with the blade on and rinse out. Side Note- Ninja full-size blenders might be a good alternative if you want a powerful full-size blender that is more affordable than Vitamix. You will see a HUGE price range for blenders for a good reason as a high-end blender like Vitamix can puree just about any ingredient you can imagine and are extremely powerful but you pay more for that. Realize though that not all blenders are the same. Full-size blenders can offer more features like variable speed settings, different blades, and larger capacity. Whereas, a blender with equivalent strength motor is obviously larger and is intended for a wider range of uses. It is an effective solution for making quick, well-blended smoothies. The Nutribullet is designed to quickly blend fruit and vegetables at a high speed and is easy to use and clean. Make sure you are comparing equivalent blending capability as well as uses that the blender is made for. Whereas, a typical blender is larger with capacities up to 64 ounces and are intended for other uses such as frozen drinks and food prep. The popular Nutribullet containers hold 24 or 32 ounces. When you compare the size of a Nutribullet to most blenders you will see that the Nutribullet is smaller and intended as a single use blender. Keep in mind that most blender comparison reviews you see are people comparing a Nutribullet that costs under $100 to a fancy Vitamix or Blendtec blender that is $400 or more which I feel is unrealistic. There are many blender types and quality levels but our goal with this article is to give you a better idea of what is best for your needs and if a compact Nutribullet is the best fit for you. There is one other drawback to watch out for: Hamster Zip Archiver's main installer is in English, but if you choose to update the software manually you may find yourself presented with a few options in the developer's native Russian. Hamster Zip Archiver offers far fewer options when creating archives, and although it can open a wide range of compressed file formats, it can only create ZIP and 7z files. However, this simplicity comes at a price. Navigation is straightforward, with intuitive touches like a simple slider for adjusting the level of compression and the ability to upload archives to cloud services. Hamstersoft's Zip Archiver is another free alternative to WinZip that's as well designed as many paid-for applications. Advanced users may prefer the more fine-grained customization provided by tools like 7-Zip, but for the average user this is an excellent choice. This can be very useful, but it happens automatically so don't be alarmed if a music file begins playing on mouseover.Īshampoo Zip Free doesn't offer an overwhelming number of options, and each of its features is clearly presented and explained. Interestingly, Ashampoo Zip Free also gives previews of files before you extract an archive. Many of the options shown on the main splash screen are links to paid applications like dedicated encryption and decryption tools, but don't let this put you off all the essentials that you'll find in other free file compression software are present and correct, including archive creation, extraction, repair, and multi-volume ZIP writing. Ashampoo Zip Free is a rare exception, with a clear interface and an optional touch mode with larger, tap-friendly icons. Many free Winzip alternatives hide their best features behind a complex system of menus. The only key feature it's missing is the ability to repair damaged archives - other than that, it's a truly exceptional program. You can apply password protection to packaged archives and split them into volumes, which is handy for sharing particularly large archives. 7-Zip can also create self-extracting 7z archives. Its own 7z format is designed for high compression, and is supported by almost all file archiving tools – both paid-for and free – making it an ideal choice for sharing. You can locate files to be archived using a simple Windows Explorer-style file tree, or drag and drop them into the main window. It's only 1MB in size, and can pack and unpack just about any compressed file archive you can throw at it.ħ-Zip isn't the most attractive WinZip alternative around, but it's so well designed that you won't miss the slick interfaces of its paid-for equivalents. In addition, users can set a username and password to their output archive files in order to prevent unauthorized access to the files.7-Zip is open source, meaning it's completely free, even for commercial use. The program also allows users to break up large files into separate archive files. The Optimum setting is a compromise between the other two settings and produces moderate compression time and file size. Maximum produces the lowest file size between the other two settings but takes a longer time to compress files. Minimum setting can compress files much faster but produces a high file size. Users may choose between three settings: Minimum, Optimal, and Maximum. The program has options that allow users to change the output quality of the archive file. Users may compress various file types such as documents, software, photos, audio, or video. Hamster Free ZIP Archiver has a user-friendly interface that allows a user to simply drag and drop file items that need to be compressed. The trial was registered with the Australian Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN012605000046606) which meets the requirements of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) for trial registration. Ethical approval for the trial was gained from the University of Western Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee. Participants were informed prior to entering the study that a sham intervention was being administered in the trial and were blinded as to whether they were receiving active treatment or not. Participants with a clinical diagnosis of plantar heel pain and who provided informed consent were randomly allocated to one of two groups: (i) low-Dye taping with sham ultrasound, or (ii) sham ultrasound only. We therefore conducted a participant-blinded randomised trial to determine whether low-Dye taping is an effective short-term treatment for plantar heel pain.Ī randomised, participant-blinded trial was conducted between February and June 2005. To this date, the effect of low-Dye taping on patient outcomes has only been assessed in non-randomised trials with beneficial results reported. However, it is unknown if a change in a surrogate outcome measure such as navicular drop actually correlates to an improvement for the patient. A reduction in strain is achieved by reducing navicular drop upon weightbearing (i.e. Like foot orthoses, it is thought that supportive tape reduces the symptoms of plantar heel pain by reducing strain in the plantar fascia during standing and ambulation. A systematic review of randomised crossover trials examined the effect of low-Dye taping on biomechanical variables. As such, short-term treatments such as supportive taping are used to alleviate symptoms during this interim period – the low-Dye taping technique being one of the most frequently used. Only heel pads, orthoses, steroid injections, night splints and extracorporeal shock wave therapy have been evaluated in randomised trials.įoot orthoses are a common treatment for plantar heel pain, however due to the manufacturing process, they often require a period of a few weeks between the initial consultation and issuing the devices. A systematic review identified 26 different conservative treatments that have been recommended for the treatment of plantar heel pain. Ī wide variety of management strategies have been developed to treat the disorder. The disorder is thought to be multifactorial in origin with factors such as obesity, excessive periods of weightbearing activity and decreased ankle range of motion commonly suggested to be involved. Seven percent of adults aged 65 years or older have been found to have plantar heel pain. A recent United States study estimated that each year one million patient visits at office-based physicians and hospital outpatient departments are for the diagnosis and treatment of heel pain. It is a common disorder in both athletic and sedentary populations. Plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis) can be a painful and debilitating condition. When used for the short-term treatment of plantar heel pain, low-Dye taping provides a small improvement in 'first-step' pain compared with a sham intervention after a one-week period. Thirteen participants in the taping group experienced an adverse event however most were mild to moderate and short-lived. There were no other statistically significant differences between groups. The estimate of effect on 'first-step' pain favoured the low-Dye tape (ANCOVA adjusted mean difference -12.3 mm 95% CI -22.4 to -2.2 P = 0.017). Participants treated with low-Dye taping reported a small improvement in 'first-step' pain after one week of treatment compared to those who did not receive taping. Outcome measures included 'first-step' pain (measured on a 100 mm Visual Analogue Scale) and the Foot Health Status Questionnaire domains of foot pain, foot function and general foot health. The duration of follow-up for each participant was one week. Participants were randomly allocated to (i) low-Dye taping and sham ultrasound or (ii) sham ultrasound alone. Ninety-two participants with plantar heel pain (mean age 50 ± 14 years mean body mass index 30 ± 6 and median self-reported duration of symptoms 10 months, range of 2 to 240 months) were recruited from the general public between February and June 2005. We performed a participant-blinded randomised trial to assess the effectiveness of low-Dye taping, a commonly used short-term treatment for plantar heel pain. Treatment of the condition is usually conservative, however the effectiveness of many treatments frequently used in clinical practice, including supportive taping of the foot, has not been established. Plantar heel pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders of the foot and ankle. Sphero Edu is built for makers, learners, educators, and parents. Go beyond code by incorporating unique STEAM activities to complete with your bot.ĭesigned for learner progression, Sphero Edu beginners can give robots commands by drawing a path in the app for their robot to follow. Sphero Edu is your hub to create, contribute, and learn with Sphero robots. The Sphero Mini is available now for $49.99 ($49.99, AU$79.99) in pink, white, green, orange, and blue. The official app for learning to code with Sphero robots. The plethora of driving modes, games and educational elements make this a far more multi-faceted device than you’d assume it to be, and for the price, we highly recommend the Sphero Mini. It’s easy to control, and moves at a satisfyingly fast speed. While it isn’t quite as characterful as some of the other offerings from Sphero, it more than makes up for it in terms of how fun it is to play with. We were seriously impressed with the Sphero Mini. We'd ideally have liked a slightly longer battery life – it's so fun to use that we frequently ran it out – but given how small the Sphero Mini is, we suppose a short battery life is understandable. It's worth noting that it doesn't retain charge, so even on days when we didn't use the Mini, it would still run down from a full battery one day to almost empty the next. In our experience a full charge actually took a little over an hour, and gameplay was a little under 45 minutes. The Sphero Mini is charged via a micro-USB cable and promises 45 minutes worth of play from an hour’s charge. Now these are an interesting proposition, because they're great fun to play, but are a halfway house between a mobile game and a real game, you wouldn't be able to play them on the tube, but if you're happy to use the Mini as a game controller you can happily while away some time shooting asteroids. These include a couple of spaceship themed games and a block destruction game. There are also games that work in the opposite way, where the Mini is the controller and the game happens on your phone. There are loads of lessons for you to take where you can learn JavaScript basics (a truly valuable skill), and it's so satisfying to have your code turn into a whirring ball of excited movement when the Mini comes to life. There are different levels of access to the control of the Sphero, starting with the simplest where you can draw a path for it with your finger, followed by one where you can drag, drop, and customize blocks that change location, locomotion, color, and more.įinally, there is an option for you to write true code that dictates the actions of the Sphero Mini. Rather than a bolt-on, this is a fully fleshed out educational app that if you give the time to, can really tech you the fundamentals of coding in a fun way. It’s also compatible with the Sphero Edu app which allows you to control it with JavaScript code, and look behind the curtain to analyze sensor data. There’s Joystick, which is a pretty simple controller Tilt, which lets you use your phone’s gyroscope to control the Mini and Slingshot, that allows you to fire the Mini off. If you’d rather keep your face out of the equation, you can control it using one of the other driving modes included in the Sphero Mini app. Slightly worrying was when we first turned Face Drive on, it took our resting face to be a frown and the Mini shot off at full speed behind us. You smile to move it away from you, frown to move towards you, tilt your head to move it left and right. The new driving mode introduced with the Mini is Face Drive, which allows you to control your Sphero Mini by pulling faces at it. The multiple driving modes help to add a variety to play that raise the Mini above being a simple controllable ball. We were pleasantly surprised with just how much you can actually do with the Sphero Mini. It was easy to find again thanks to the whirring noises it makes and the LEDs but we can imagine if it was left there and then the battery ran down, it would be pretty hard to find again. It hurtles around at such a pace that we did lose sight of it several times while playing with it. Its diminutive size also means that there is the possibility of losing it. We can imagine it being trod on, as it would be easy to not notice it under-foot when walking through a room. One concern that we have about the Mini is that being small and plastic makes it potentially easy to break.
